From Values to Action – Actively Contributing to Society

Children’s Rights & Participation – Living Democracy in Everyday School Life
Children have rights – to protection, support, and participation. But what exactly does the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child cover? Which rights are most relevant in everyday educational practice? And how can these rights be implemented in ways that are concrete and child-friendly? This workshop offers a practical overview of the most important children’s rights and shows how they can become visible and effective in schools and childcare settings. At the centre lies one key question: How can we not only inform children about their rights, but also actively involve them? Core topics of the workshop: An overview of children’s rights – with a focus on protection, support, and participation What participation means in educational settings – legally, practically, and culturally How children can understand their rights in age-appropriate ways and actively exercise them Using case studies, reflection prompts, and practical tools, participants develop strategies to anchor children’s rights in schools, after-school care, and non-formal education – not in abstract terms, but in ways that are lively, effective, and close to daily practice. A workshop for everyone seeking a solid introduction to children’s rights – and who wants to shape them as part of a democratic, participatory approach to education.

Digital Truth-Searching – Educational Approaches to Fake News & Filter Bubbles
Algorithms play a major role in shaping what young people see online – and, with it, how they perceive the world. Between fake news, manipulative narratives, and personalised feeds, it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish facts from opinions. For educators, this means that media education cannot stop at technical basics. The real challenge is to empower children and young people to reflect – on information, sources, and their own view of the world. In this workshop, we develop practical approaches to engage with young people about digital disinformation, filter bubbles, and opinion-making. Through concrete case studies, methods, and reflection prompts, participants learn: how fake news is created – and why it spreads so effectively how to identify manipulative content how echo chambers and recommendation algorithms work which educational strategies foster a critical mindset A workshop for everyone who wants to strengthen young people’s media literacy, judgment, and critical thinking in the digital space.
